Dhaanto

Dhaanto is a photography and film project that explores themes of cultural transference and preservation. The project follows a Minneapolis-based East African dance troupe and their coach. Mohamoud is a hidden culture bearer in the community passing along knowledge to waves of young Somali Americans.

This project serves as an archival piece of the present, an attempt at conserving the current cross-sectional moment of this team within the African diaspora as the current generation is receiving knowledge and actively transferring these dances.
